Description of the 2016 SMPP



For the second consecutive year the Summer Music Performance Program at Anatolia College was held with great success from June 30th to July 10th 2016, with 60 participants from Australia, USA, Armenia, Cyprus and Greece.
The distinguished faculty consisted of: Dwight Coleman (voice - opera), Judith Mendenhall (flute), Nevart- Veron Galileas (flute - flute ensemble), Christos Galileas (violin), Yannis Tsitselikis (cello), Jura Margulis (piano), Alex Peh (piano), George Konstantinidis (piano) and Yiorgos Vassilandonakis (composition).






On July 5th and July 6th the student concerts took place at the concert hall of the Municipality of Panorama and at Bissell Library of the American College of Thessaloniki (ACT).





On July 7th,
 the distinguished professor and director of the Hellenic Studies Institute of Georgia State University (Atlanta, USA) Louis A. Ruprecht Jr. gave a lecture on "The Olympic Revival" in the Bissell Library of ACT.

                  


On July 7th, Jura Margulis gave an impressive piano recital at the Byzantine Museum of Thessaloniki. The internationally renowned soloist performed the works of R.Schumann, P.I.Tchaikovsky, N.Medtner and M.Balakirev.

                                                                                                                       





On July 8th
, students were invited to spend the day at the Sani Beach Resort in Halkidiki where they enjoyed the beautiful beach and an elaborate dinner buffet.














On July 9th, the impressive concert of the SMPP Contemporary Ensemble took place in Bissell Library. Selected works of the composition students were performed in a world premiere concert and were professionally recorded.














On July 9th,
 an impressive production of the operetta of Johann Strauss II Die Fledermaus took place in the concert hall of the Municipality of Panorama under the direction of Professor Dwight Coleman and Dr. Alex Peh bringing an end to an exciting week filled with master classes, faculty concerts, students concerts and lectures.
